Thank you all for participation and see you at DAS2020 in Linz!

INVITED LECTURE BY NASA EXPERT

It is our great honour and privilege to announce that the invited lecture will be given by a long-term NASA technical fellow and a recognized expert Dr. Ivatury S. Raju.

During the past four decades at NASA Langley Research Center, Dr. Raju’s research focused on Fracture Mechanics, Durability and Damage Tolerance, Composite Materials, and development of advanced Structural Analysis Methods such as Finite Element, Boundary Element, and Meshless Methods. Dr. Raju held various positions such as Head of the Mechanics of Materials Branch in the Materials Division; Head of the Analytical and Computational Methods Branch and Senior Technologist of Structures and Materials, NASA Engineering and Safety Center’s (NESC) Structures Discipline Expert, and NASA Technical Fellow for Structures. He made significant contributions to various NASA programs such as the Aircraft Energy Efficiency, Advanced Composite Technology, Aging Aircraft, and Vehicle Systems Programs. During his career, Dr. Raju was called on to participate in many major failure investigations – 7’ x 10’ fan blade failure at Langley, Challenger SRB field joint, X-33 Composite tank failure, and the AA 587 Airbus A300-600 rudder failure. During his Tech Fellow’s position at the NESC, Dr. Raju’s work focused on finding solutions to ensure safe operations of several programs such as Space Shuttle, the International Space Station, the Ares rockets of the Constellation, and the Commercial Crew Program. Dr. Raju retired from NASA Langley in March 2017. He currently serves gratuitously as Distinguished Research Associate at NASA Langley.

Dr. Raju has a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, M.E. and Ph.D. in Aeronautical Structures, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and an M.S. in Engineering Administration from the George Washington University. He participated in Program in Management Development at Harvard University. Dr. Raju is the recipient of several honors: NASA Langley’s Value Engineering Award; ICCES’s Theodore H. H. Pian Medal; Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, NESC’s MLAS Max Faget Engineering Excellence Award; ICCES’s Lifetime Achievement Award; NASA’s Exceptional Achievement and Exceptional Service Medals.

ABOUT

Each year since 1984, the Danubia-Adria Symposium on Advances in Experimental Mechanics brings together internationally recognized experts and young researchers in an effort to exchange ideas in different topics having as common link EXPERIMENTAL MECHANICS. The symposium acts also as a platform for establishing connections between different research groups that are trying to establish future scientific collaboration.

The symposium is focused on experimental and measuring methods necessary to deepen the knowledge about the mechanical behavior of materials, mechanical structures, and systems, and to provide the physical bases and verification of numerical or analytical methodologies in engineering design.

The symposium is focused, but not limited to, the following topics:

Faculty members and students, scientists, researchers, engineers and industrial experts are warmly invited to present and discuss the current status and impact of modern technology and development in the field of experimental mechanics.

As a tradition in the Danubia Adria Symposia, a special competition, open to doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students will be organized. The scientific committee will be the jury that will assign three prizes (100 EUR) for the best papers presented by the students.

The symposium will consist of oral and poster presentations. Selected contributions presented at the symposium will be recommended for publication in Elsevier journal Materials Today Proceedings (the proposal was accepted on February 28, 2019).
